Humane Society of Cherokee County
About Our Rescue Group
A group of Cherokee County volunteers who care about animals and are committed to:
Feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, giving love and care, seeking quality adoptive homes.
Reducing the number of stray, abandoned and neglected animals in this area, through spaying & neutering our rescues and assisting with spay/neuter of already owned pets.
Educating and advocating on behalf of animals.
Come Meet our Pets
We show animals on Saturdays from 10:00 to noon, and on other afternoons by appointment. Our shelter is near Tahlequah OK. Call 918-457-7997. Leave your name & number, speaking slowly & clearly. Answering machine is checked regularly.
Our Adoption Process
We interview potential adopters in an effort to place pets with LOVING, RESPONSIBLE, APPROPRIATE owners.
There is an application and contract. The contract considers the animal, adopter, and Humane Society. Adoption fees vary somewhat according to several factors. The amount is always reasonable.
We prefer to adopt within "easy driving distance" of Tahlequah OK. Occasionally there will be an exception, but in any case we do not ship animals.
